Enriching Activities During Online Class Era

2022-04-25From : 管理员Click : 663

As the Covid-19 pandemic situation got worse, all teachers and students in Shanghai had to switch to online classes on March 12, and it’s 6 weeks since then. Based on our successful experience in 2020, SHBS responded to the sudden change with calmness and fast action, enabling students to have a smooth transition from campus-based learning to online learning.

In addition to making full use of the unique advantages of online teaching to ensure the quality of teaching, we also timely organized lectures on positive psychology, a sharing session given by one-legged Pan, chats with our psychology teacher, wish-making cards, and other activities based on their different moods at different times of online teaching so that we will be able to timely ease students' negative emotions.

Besides the weekly CAS activities, various activities have been carried out so that students can show and express themselves. Let's have a look at some of the activities.

Daily Workout

At the beginning of online teaching, the school initiated an activity which requires

students to record their daily workout and includes the following two parts:

1) All students are required to work out for at least 20 mins on average per day, at least 140min in total per week. They can choose any form of exercise on sports APPs to record.  Failure in this section will affect the overall PE grades.

2)Students may choose to challenge a single event according to their own physical fitness, and those who succeed in entering the final list will be able to accumulate scores and win bonus for their homerooms

Every day, students share their own records of workout in their HR wechat group. Then the PE monitor is responsible for recording and publicizing their results, and report them to the project management wechat group of the Sports Department of the ASB. PE teachers and student athletes have recorded some indoor exercises guidance videos for everyone's reference.

By encouraging each other, the students have created a positive atmosphere for workout and formed a good habit of doing exercise regularly. Through workout, they have not only strengthened their bodies, but also toughened their willpower, reduced the pressure brought by the epidemic, relaxed, enriched and improved themselves. We hope we will be able to defeat the covid virus and return to school as early as possible.

Wish Wall

Teenagers are energetic, ambitious, and eager to express themselves; Teenagers are also more sensitive: sometimes they want to make themselves heard but also fear being seen through. In order to provide students with a platform to express their emotions, the school launched a wish wall activity in the second week of online classes. Students may fill in the wish cards with their real or nick names. All the wish cards will be posted on the wish wall, shown to the community.

Some of their wishes have already been fulfilled, such as a more flexible mid-term assessment during online class. Others require constant effort or patience.  As for the trampoline they desire for, when they get back to school, they will find it sitting on the lawn.

During online classes, all students can express themselves on the wish wall. Our school will also pay attention to the wishes and expectations of the students and try to meet their reasonable needs.  Let's have a look at the interesting nicknames of the students and their young thoughts hidden behind their nicknames.

Look for Voice of Youth

The covid situation in Shanghai has been widely discussed, and the Internet is filled with various voices and opinions. Our school also finds it important to develop students’ critical thinking skills. At P&B sessions, students are taught to identify information and think critically. Students are also encouraged to record what they see, feel, think and understand. Therefore, our school has initiated the writing activity "Look for the Voice of Youth", which will be conducted in combination with the Chinese class and the coming English speech contest. Please keep following us to get the updates.
