Griggs Annual Training Conference

The Griggs Annual Training Conference, organized by Griggs China and hosted by Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School (SHBS, the exclusive authorized affiliated school of Griggs China in Shanghai), invited representatives from Griggs affiliated schools in the Asia-Pacific region to attend the conference.

The purpose of the conference was to support Griggs affiliated schools to strictly implement the standards of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions and flexibly apply its teaching philosophies and methodologies. Educational experts, leading administrators, and teachers from affiliated schools  came together to learn about school governance and pedagogy based on a variety of topics, sharing successful experiences through case studies, and recognizing shortcomings, so as to guide schools’ teaching and management to the next level in the new school year.

培训开启

Start

On August 18, Griggs Annual Training Conference welcomed the warm-up session - the Welcome Dinner. Administrators and teachers from various affiliated schools who had traveled from all over the world and China checked in at our garden-style hotel and then headed to Hongrun Boyuan School to join the BBQ dinner prepared by the school in the afternoon on August 18.

After a brief welcome by Mr. Bowen Chen, General Principal of Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School, and Ms. Lisa Kerr, Academic Director of China Griggs, everyone started to enjoy the food prepared by the chefs of SHBS, a variety of main dishes, snacks, desserts, barbecues and all kinds of drinks. During the dinner, participants who had not met each other before were introduced to each other and exchanged educational experiences at the dinner table. There were also people who had not met for a long time, greeting and getting to know each other's recent situations. The dinner was very relaxed and enjoyable.

Good Time

The welcome ceremony was held in the auditorium of Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School on August 19. Dr. Alayne Thorpe, President of Griggs International Academy, Mr. Stephen Rivers, Global Director of Griggs International Academy, Ms. Lisa Kerr, Academic Director of Griggs China, Mr. Bowen Chen, General Principal of Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School, and Mr. Christopher Moses, Foreign Principal of Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School, welcomed the delegates from ZWIE World Academy in Guangzhou, Kunshan Global IELTS International Center, Kunshan Liren Foreign Language School, Axis International School in Japan and the Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School to the training, both remotely and on-site.

In each of the training sessions, our trainers shared with delegates their effective management and teaching methods and experiences since they have been engaged in international education in a no-holds-barred and professional manner. In addition to sharing professional knowledge, there was also questions or group discussions to allow delegates from each school to actively participate in brainstorming and exchange ideas and insights, which undoubtedly allowed all of us to gain more perspectives and methods of teaching and learning.

The training program was a busy schedule and we prepared tea breaks for everyone to refuel in between training sessions.

We went to Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School's reserved restaurant in Zhujiajiao Ancient Town for dinner and sightseeing after the last training session on the first day. Zhujiajiao Ancient Town is a small town built on the water, with a Jiangnan flavor. The town has preserved the streets and lanes of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. According to statistics, there are nine long streets stretching along the river, and there are thousands of ancient buildings standing by the water.

Principal Bowen showed his hospitality by ordering a variety of authentic Shanghai dishes for the delegates. The dishes were rich in color and flavor. All of us enjoyed the dinner a great deal. After the dinner, Ms. Irene Ma, the Assistant Principal of SHBS, as the guide, took the foreign principals and teachers on a tour of the ancient town.

After the second day of training lectures, we held a closing ceremony in the auditorium on August 20. On behalf of Managing Director of Griggs China, Harry Lee, the Academic Director of Griggs China, Lisa Kerr thanked the three principals of Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School, the organizer of the conference, and all the staff of the school who participated in preparing for the conference, as well as the representatives of the schools who participated in the conference. Griggs China specially prepared red packets and certificates to thank the trainers who shared their expertise  with the attendees. The last speech was made by Principal Bowen Chen, who hoped that we could run the training conference every year to bring the administrators and teachers of different schools to continue to share and exchange, so as to run a better GIA school. The school also prepared a small gift for the delegates - a bear doll designed by the graduates of the class of 2024, which was full of surprises.

After lunch, we arranged a team building activity - rowing, which was also the last activity of the whole training. Before going into the water, the rowing coach taught us the basic rowing maneuvers of rowing. Although it was very hot outside, everyone went into the water without fear and with the mood to try. After an hour of rowing in the SHBS lake, all of the participants returned safely. Although they were drenched in sweat and full of fatigue, it was obvious from their smiling faces that everyone was happy.

With the end of the rowing, the 2024 Griggs Annual Training Conference is now officially over, and we hope to meet again in the coming years. Once again, thanks to our host school, Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School, for making this conference a success, thank you!
