Andrews University and Griggs International Academy provides opportunities on the graduate level for achieving GIA and/or State of Michigan elementary and secondary certification. Candidates may work towards certification without being in a degree program or they may complete certification requirements while taking courses required for the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree.
For those without teaching certification, candidates must begin by taking EDTE508 Principles of Teaching and Learning to become GIA certified. The course must be completed prior to the candidate commencing a teaching position in a GIA affiliate. In addition to this course, candidates must successfully complete in one academic year:
1. GIA induction training - materials include educational frameworks
2. Achieve two (2) satisfactory GIA teaching evaluations
3. Mentored by a GIA approved certified teacher
