Semester Evaluation
Due to the pandemic, in-person evaluations were suspended, and online evaluations took their place. However, due to the acknowledgement by the World Health Organization that the Covid-19 pandemic is now over, representatives from Griggs International Academy are being welcomed back to schools to resume in-person evaluations. Ms. Lisa Kerr, the Academic Director of Griggs China, has the privilege of conducting this semester’s evaluations and meeting with students and faculty members.
Every Griggs affiliate school is evaluated each semester in accordance with the educational guidelines and standards of Griggs International Academy. During the evaluations, school facilities, equipment, and resources are inspected to ensure they adhere to GIA standards. Affiliate school objectives and school curricula are observed as well as the quality of teaching, moral education, and student support services. Guidance and recommendations are given to schools to ensure they are on a constant journey of excellence.
The GIA School Evaluations cover 21 specific areas:
1. School Facilities
2. Health and Safety
3. Sanitary Facilities
4. Functions of School Administration
5. School Enrollment
6. Home and School Functions
7. Philosophy and Objectives
8. School Finance
9. Teacher Quality
10. Teaching Equipment and Aids
11. Textbooks
12. Library
13. School Program and Curricula
14. Philosophy of Enrollment
15. ESL Progress of Students
16. Moral Education Program
17. Student Attitude
18. Teacher(s) Attitude
19. Excursions/Off Campus Programs
20. Local Community Public Relations
21. Boarding Life
Lesson observations, meetings with students, faculty, and administrators, online surveys, document audits and general observations allow the evaluator to determine if each criterion has been fulfilled.
Each category is rated as follows:
Poor – Less than 30% of objectives met
Needs Improvement – 50% of objectives met
Good – Between 50% and 80% of objectives met
Outstanding – Above 80% of objectives met
A recommendation then follows each rating where appropriate. Specific areas of concern will be noted, and a GIA or local remedy offered. The outcomes of the evaluations will be shared with school administrators within a month of the completion of the evaluation. In-person evaluations allow us to see the true quality of the GIA programs and feel the sense of community that has been established by our schools.
