On Feb. 12, all teachers and students attended a grand opening ceremony at the school auditorium.
Seated with excitement in the auditorium, all teachers, students and parents enjoyed the warm-up videos on the screen, which showed the rich and diverse classroom learning and activities of SHBS students and was an epitome of their happy life on campus.
The opening ceremony started at 3pm. The ceremony was co-chaired by Chris, the foreign principal, and Ms. Irene Ma. First of all, there was the introduction of the faculty team. After being introduced to the students by Chris, all teachers stood up in groups to greet them.
Then, Ms. Marta spoke on behalf of all teachers on the stage, and her speech was translated by Ms. Kong. Marta chose to start the new semester with the poem “It couldn't be done", to encourage all students to challenge themselves, to be determined to overcome difficulties, and to accomplish what seems impossible.
Next, three students gave wonderful speeches on the stage on behalf their different grades.
Penny Pan encouraged everyone by saying: "Don't be timid; don't be afraid to make mistakes; seize the opportunities, and make full use of the resources provided by our school to make break-throughs and create a better self".
Samuel Wang told us from his own experience, "Lean in, and maybe everything will be better.”
Luke Lu, a 12th grader, gave advice to the underclassmen, "Learn about yourself, plan and prepare ahead of time, reserve enough time for college application."
Later, as a great cheer went up from the audience, the most anticipated awarding ceremony began. A lot of awards, such as Academic Progress Award, Straight A Students Award, Academic Programs & Contests Award, Civic Engagement 0 Punishment Hour, Wenhui Scholarship, award for A-level Clubs, and awards for the Most Promising, the Most Competitive and the Strongest Homerooms, were presented during the ceremony. Parent Representatives were also invited to the stage to receive the awards of gratitude from the school.
Finally, Principal Bowen delivered an exciting speech to start the new semester. He shared his own experiences during his school years from three perspectives: reading, core competitiveness, and switch, inspiring students to seize the new opportunities in the new semester.
The opening ceremony was successfully concluded in a round of applause. May teachers and students keep making progress and embrace our better selves.
