ROS Terminator to iGEM

2023-01-15From : 管理员Click : 737

Are you still staying up late?

Are you still buying into the "sleep the staying-up-late damage off" magic?

Staying up late can cause so much damage to our body

# Undermine our immunity

# Causes high blood pressure, tumors, nervous system dysfunction

……

Do you know the mechanism through which staying up late can damage our health? Do you know how to reduce the damage of staying up late? Staying up late has become an increasingly popular topic. Keeping abreast of the current focus, in November 2022, our school launched an academic biology activity -- "ROS Terminator", which attracted the attention and participation of many students.

ROS Terminator

Focused on the harm of staying up late to the body, this activity designed probiotics with the ability to eliminate reactive oxygen species, effectively alleviating the health damage caused by sleep loss. The students experienced life science, genetic engineering technology, plasmid extraction and other knowledge and skills in a comprehensive way, which also helped enhance students' interest in the field of biology.

Through this activity, the students had a glimpse of the current bio-genetic engineering, gene editing and other cutting-edge technologies, and carried out in-depth learning. Moreover, divided into different groups and under the guidance of the teacher, the students practiced a series of "operations in the biology book", such as transcription and expression, plasmid extraction, protein purification, etc., which enhanced the students’ understanding of the theories through experiments.

This activity expanded and deepened the knowledge on the biology test book and had a profound influence on students' future study and development.

√ Help students accumulate professional knowledge and develop their thinking skills in scientific research

√ Help students understand their future study direction and identify their major interests

√ Help students get to know excellent peers and accumulate initial resources

√ Offer the students deep lab experience and hands-on operation

International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition

iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition), created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003, It is a comprehensive international challenge that integrates life science, business, social science, computer, mathematics and other fields. Over the years, the iGEM Challenge has become a global STEM and business event with a wide range of participation and high profile.

In 2022, Hongrun Boyuan School won the Bronze Prize in the iGEM Challenge!
