Digital Citizenship
SHBS
On the afternoon of October 10th, we invited Mr. Huang Yi, a police officer from Shanghai Public Security Corps, to share on the lurking dangers of surfing online or using social media and how to better protect ourselves.
Before the lecture began, Principal Bowen Chen presented Officer Huang Yi with a letter of appointment, which appointed him to be a guest lecturer at SHBS. Officer Huang Yi is very popular among students. This is the second time that he has visited our school to raise students’ awareness of safety.
This lecture focused on "Taking the initiative in ensuring Cyber-security". Nowadays, robbery, theft and other cases have begun to drop gradually, but the cases of online fraud are increasing rapidly. Many criminals are taking advantage of the rapid development of the Internet. Since everyone's daily life has been immersed in social media, more and more people are lost in the sea of intricate Internet information. Therefore, we really need to discuss the issue on how to resist all kinds of temptations and hold the bottom line of security.
Statistics show that more than 220,000 people have become victims of online fraud in the past five years, 75 percent of whom are young people.
First of all, Officer Huang sorted out the types and logic of online fraud based on the age and mental characteristics of high school students. By taking real events as cases, he helped students have a deep understanding of, get closer to, and finally identify online fraud. In order to attract the audience’s attention, he invited one student to the stage and reconstruct the real scene of arrest, causing quite a stir among the audience and winning their applause.
Then, Officer Huang introduced the "anti-fraud app" to everyone, and he explained, using specific cases, how it works and what effect it has. This App has greatly cut down on the fraud cases, so Huang urged students to download and install it so that it may protect them against any type of online fraud. Meanwhile, he also reminded them that they must make sure that they answer any call from the number 96110, which is the phone number of the anti-fraud system. If you receive a call from this number, it means that you or your beloved ones may risk being duped by fraudsters.
Next, Officer Huang also emphasized that high school students should always stay away from drugs because drugs can shatter our sweet family, ruin adolescent students and destroy everything we have. He vividly presented one after another of real life cases, making everyone become deeply aware of how valuable life is and how harmful drugs are.
Finally, Officer Huang restated the topic of his lecture -- to take the initiative in ensuring Internet security. Nowadays, with the rapid development of mini video corps, students are easily influenced by social media. As teenagers, it is easy to lose their basic sense of judgment and boundaries when making and releasing videos. Anything posted on the Internet will leave its traces and may even become a tool used against you by someone with ill intention. Besides, cyber hackers may easily steal users' private information. Therefore, it is very important to cultivate students’ media integrity. We hope, by attending the lecture, students can raise their awareness of privacy, talk and behave properly on the Internet, so that they may protect themselves as well as others on the Internet.
