On March 22 in Shanghai, Hurun Research Institute released the Fusion of Chinese and Western Cultures - White Paper on 2021 International Education in China. The white paper shows that although the COVID-19 pandemic and the intensified competition between China and the United States have had a great impact on studying abroad, the educational philosophy of the surveyed high-net-worth families (Note 1) is still very rational and international: In order to cultivate the next generation with global competency, they are more inclined to choose to study abroad and return to China for development; In order to better adapt to the life of studying abroad, they tend to first study in international schools (Note 2) or related international courses in China and then go abroad for further education.
Note 1: The sample of 600 Chinese high-net-worth families with net assets of more than RMB 10 million covers major Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities across China.
Note 2: The NewSchool Insight Media "2020 China International School Development Report" shows that up to 2020, the total number of accredited international schools in mainland China is 907, with a scale of 610,000 students.
After more than 40 years of reform and opening up, since the beginning of the 21st century, China has deeply integrated into the world and formed a complete industrial chain, becoming the world's second largest economy and the largest trading partner of more than 100 countries and regions in the world. At present, China is transitioning from Made in China to Intelligence-made in China. In the 21st century, Chinese talents need not only the roots of their own cultural identity and national identity, but also the ability to understand and cooperate internationally. International education provides a suitable talent training model for cultivating such "globally competitive" Chinese talents.
China's international education is not an imitation of education from other systems, nor is it self-development in a closed inner-country model. The fusion of Chinese and Western education will be the main trend in the future. The process of Chinese and Western integration is a process of integrating the advantages of both local education and international education. Specifically, the fusion includes the integration of Chinese and Western cultures, Chinese and foreign teachers, Chinese courses and foreign courses, and Chinese and foreign teaching methods.
